Our weekend..

DS went to a birthday pool party yesterday. He had SO much fun! I think the parents did also...LOL! The birthday boy was in ds' class last year and he's so cute.

It was nice to be out and mingle with adults while the kids had fun.

Needless to say, ds was tuckered out by the time we got home.

Today, we didn't go to church and just hung out and took it easy. DS and I went outside for awhile this afternoon (can we say HOT?!). He rode his bike and played while I finished reading a chapter for my speech class.

We just came in again from outside. This time he wanted to run through the sprinkler since today is watering day. Might as well kill 2 birds with one stone....HA

Back to school

DS is officially a 1st grader! Today was the 2nd day of school and I have to say what a difference a year makes! There were NO tears, no clinging, nothing! He went into his class yesterday, sat down and didn't even look back. I don't think he even knew I was there..sniff, sniff.

He has even asked to be dropped off in car line! Last year in Kindergarten, that was a no no. He wanted me to walk him to class everyday and I did. I actually enjoyed that. Now I guess he wants to be a big boy. Today he walked by the kindergarteners and actually said, " look at all of those kindergarteners." I thought that was so cute.

Blue day..

Not sure what's going on with me but I just feel blah today. It doesn't help that it just started raining and I don't feel well physically either.

Anyway, we're going to just take it easy today. I'm going to do one last check later to make sure everything is ready for school.

Cupcakes anyone?

Well after my last entry, which was a downer, I decided to post a little cheer.

DS and I baked some cupcakes. He never bakes with me (boy thing maybe??) Anyway, I asked if he wanted to and he said yes. He picked the type of cake and the frosting (sprinkles, of course)

It was really fun, actually! I even let him frost them. He's so funny because he put alot of frosting on one and said "that one is mine," and that's the one he at too...LOL!

Saw my son hurt by his dad for the 1st time...

I've posted about how ds wanted to spend the summer with his dad. For the most part, he's been spending the last few weeks with him and staying with me off and on. Well he hadn't stayed with his dad for a couple of nights and wanted to go on Thurs. He talked to dad and dad told him Friday night would be better.

I talked to ex-h Friday about 7pm and he said "bring him on." I got some more things together and had a couple of things to finish, so it was about 8 when we got to dad's house. I called on the way and his cell said he was on the phone. We got there and his car was there but no answer. Of course, I immediately got mad but tried not to let that show with ds. I asked him if he wanted to wait so we did for awhile. Finally he knocked one last time on the door and said "Mommy, I guess we might as well go." My heart sank looking at his little face :(

Once we got down the street he started to cry and my sadness immediately turned to RAGE! I wouldn't say ex-h is the best dad by any means, but this was out of character even for him.

The worst part is, it's Sunday and he has yet to call ds and apologize or explain. The sad part is, I'm sure he's mad at me at this point (left some not so nice messages on his voicemail Friday night), and he's punishing his son for it. Maybe I made the situation worse by leaving a nasty message but I was SO upset because ds was SO upset.

I couldn't post the other night because the post probably would've been filled with expletives...LOL! Anyway, just been praying alot because I know only God can fix this.

Sorry for the downer post today.

Random Mom thoughts

Swim lessons ended yesterday and ds did great, as I've already mentioned. If there was a most improved award, he definitely would've won it.

There's only a little over a week before school starts so I've been making sure everything's ready to go for the first day. I also start classes the day before ds, so I want to make sure we're both ready.

On the job front, I have an interview on Monday! I'm thinking this might be promising because it's not something I applied for, I was referred by the recruiter from my former employer. I really believe in this market, getting a job will be based on who I know, not how many apps I fill out!

Not much planned for the rest of summer except ds and I hanging out, swimming some, maybe a movie tomorrow and I might try to get one more playdate in.

I guess swimming just clicks one day

and they get it. At least that's how it seems with my son. He's taken swim lessons each year since 2 and I never really saw progression, until now! I can officially say I have a little swimmer...YAY.

I noticed it first in May when he took lessons with his Kindergarten class. Until then, no instructor could get him to put his head/face in the water. He would do a quick dunk but no swimming with face under water. He was never afraid of the water; just didn't like water in his face :O.

By the end of the week last week, he was swimming, arms and all!! This is the second week and today went really well. The instructor said she thinks he's ready for level 2. I guess that will have to wait until next summer since this is the last session for summer.

Just had to brag on my son.

So, I may have a new job.

I won't get ahead of myself because I just got the call today. My previous job was in banking but in a very specialized department. My name was referred by the recruiter at my former job (yay her!)

The lady called today to tell me that my name had been given to her and she wanted to call me right away. We talked for awhile about the position and then I emailed her my resume.

I have to say, I'm excited because I was really becoming discouraged about not finding a job after over 10 months of being laid off!!

I have TRULY enjoyed my time at home and I know that's an opportunity I probably won't get again until I retire...LOL! I always wanted to be a SAHM but couldn't.

Thank God I was money smart over the years and saved for a rainy day. I just never thought my rainy day would be a long layoff.

Of course, I'm already thinking about the negatives, such as, the job is in a neighboring city (about 20 mins) and I've done a commute before and said I didn't want to do that again, which is one of the reasons I accepted my last job; it was 10 mins from home! Also, I was able to be really involved with my son's Kindergarten year because I was off. I think it really helped him through the school year. I loved being able to volunteer in his class and pick him up from school and not leave him in aftercare.

He's already said he doesn't want me to go back to work but I know I have to. Unemployment will end next month and savings will also...

Any rich, single men out there???!! Kidding!!!

We're off to swm lessons to finish off the summer

I've procrastinated all summer about putting ds in lessons. The last 2 wk session started today so I went and signed him up. He'll go everyday for 2 weeks. I'm glad they had some spots still available. We haven't been swimming very much this summer, which is unusual for us. I'll make sure we hit the pool at least every other week until it gets cool.

The boy is home...

at least for now. DS came home last night and I'm sure you're thinking YAY right?! Of course I was happy but that didn't last long :(. It didn't take long for him to start whining, which led to crying and coughing, which led to throwing up all over his red shag rug...UGH!

I'm sure part of it was tired because dad doesn't stick to a bedtime like I do, but that's another story.

Anyway, now the rug is outside in the sun drying off, hopefully. I had to hose it down to get the chunks out of the shag (that was fun).

At least the boy is home for a bit...LOL!
